Distance Learning Blog launch.
IDEAL will
soon be launching “BG
Blocks” an “academic community blog” for
faculty who are teaching online or who have
an interest in teaching online. What is a blog?
The term “blog” comes from the words “web” and “log”:
(web + log) – we = BLOG. A common definition
of a blog is a frequently updated website
with multiple contributors, consisting of
dated
entries arranged in reverse chronological
order with the most recent entry appearing
first. However, an academic community blog
is all that and so much more. Given the fact
BG Blocks was developed entirely
here at BGSU gave the designers the opportunity
to
develop a new collaborative paradigm unlike
any other used in higher
education.
| Why use a Blog? |
Blogs, which are easy to
create and use, have become an effective
communication tool not only for those interested
in personal Internet publishing but also
as a respected vehicle for individuals
interested
in online
communication with fellow colleagues. |
| What
are the benefits? |
Blogs offer students, faculty,
and staff
a new opportunity for interaction
with peers. Blogs provide a forum for discussion
that goes beyond coursework by offering
a new mechanism for peer-to-peer knowledge
sharing. |
| What
is the significance? |
Have you ever wanted to
find out what other colleagues are doing
in their online courses? Perhaps you are
the type of person who feels information
is not proprietary and would like to share
personal experiences or online
research materials with others. One of
the major benefits of blogs is their ability
to foster community growth, making them
an IDEAL solution for
establishing far-reaching discussions on
new and emerging distance
education and e-learning topics. |
IDEAL’s blog is being created
as an online community for faculty to exchange
experiences,
provide tips and support, and share knowledge
with other faculty. The intended
purpose of BG Blocks is to create
a diversified community of individuals dedicated
to creating an environment conducive to intellectual
growth and the sharing of new ideas. BG Blocks will
be launched later this month, so make sure
to frequently check the IDEAL mainpage
to be one of the first to experience this
new form of scholarly collaboration here
at BGSU.
