Our
faculty and staff (listed below in alphabetical
order) are academic professionals in technology
and practitioners in business and industry.
Dr. Gary Benjamin was formerly Corporate Director
of Training and Development for a Fortune 500
company where he was responsible for the development
and implementation of Professional and Skill
development programs for employees at all levels.
His primary area of interest is helping students
understand and adapt new technologies to the
training function. His additional focus is
to ensure that the workplace perceives these
new applications as both practical and value-added.
Dr. Benjamin received his Master's degree from
Bowling Green and his Doctorate from The University
of Toledo in Organization Behavior.
Dr. James Bradford ’s career has included
teaching and administration in higher education
at The Ohio State University, Medical College
of Ohio, Illinois State University and Cleveland
State University. During this time he has worked
with technologies to enhance the learning process,
both in traditional and distance learning settings.
His Masters and Doctoral degrees, from The
Ohio State University, are in the area of Educational
Communication. He has participated and served
in professional societies throughout his career,
including acting as president of the International
Visual Literacy Association, the Illinois Association
for Educational Communication and Technology,
and the Association of Biomedical Communication
Directors.
Dr. Paul Cesarini is an Assistant Professor,
originally from the Boston area. His current
research and work focuses on digital rights
management and the on-going erosion of fair
use for audio, video, and text. His most recent
publication was "eBooks: A Battle for
Standards," featured in the multi-journal
release of The Writing Instructor and Enculturation.
Prior to working in the ATE program, Paul created
and managed the BGSU Student Technology Center
(StudentTech), which continues to serve the
BGSU student population in all areas related
to technology literacy. In this capacity, Paul
also coordinated the Laptop Loan Program and
the annual BGSU Tech Fair.
Bonnie Fink works in the College of Technology,
Department of Visual Communication and Technology
Education, and is currently teaching Web-based
classes for the Advanced Technological Education
degree program. Her current research and
work focuses on distance education and training
in business and industry. Before working
in the College of Technology, Bonnie was
the undergraduate coordinator and advisor
for the Scientific and Technical Communication
degree program at BGSU. In recognition for
her teaching, Bonnie was selected as the
1998 BGSU Master Teacher by the Undergraduate
Alumni Association. In the same year she
also received the President's Advising Award.
Dr. Larry Hatch is Chair of the Department
of Visual Communication and Technology Education
(VC&TE). He holds two degrees (B.S, M.S.)
in Industrial Education from Iowa State University
and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland.
Dr. Hatch has been chair of the VC&TE
department since 1996. He has taught undergraduate
courses in Technology Education and graduate
courses in research, evaluation, and statistics.
His scholarship has focused on curriculum
and laboratories for technological literacy.
Dr. Hatch is the originator of this program
and has helped establish BS in Technology,
ATE major, as one of BGSU's first on-line
degrees.
Dave Heiser is a doctoral student working towards
a Ph.D. in Technology Management with a specialization
in Human Resource Development and industrial
training. He received his B.S. degree in
Manufacturing Technology from Bowling Green
State University in 1996, retired as an industrial
electrician in 1999, then received his MA
degree in Scientific and Technical Communication
in 2001. He has been an assistant instructor
in this program since the fall of 2001 when
he started in the online Ph.D. program based
at Indiana State University.
Dr. Burnette Shilling (Bur) is currently teaching
TECH 310 [Computer-mediated Communication]
and is the Academic Administrator for the
program. He completed a baccalaureate degree
from Taylor University in Indiana, a Master’s
degree from Winebrenner Seminary, Findlay,
OH, a Doctor of Ministry degree from Trinity
University, Deerfield, IL, and a Ph.D. from
BGSU. He has most recently been on the faculty
of Winebrenner Seminary, Findlay, Ohio, where
he taught in the Master’s and Doctoral
programs and was Director of Doctoral Studies.
He also has taught undergraduate communication
classes at the University of Findlay as well
as directed a 2 + 2 undergraduate degree
designed for adult learners. Bur has been
an adjunct faculty member of the Jerusalem
Center, Jerusalem, Israel, for several years
where he teaches Middle East history and
geography.
